EVGA has just presented its first power supplies in SFX format, designed to be used in small computer boxes. The new GM SuperNOVAs have been presented in three different powers, which can cover from the most basic office equipment, to equipment with high performance hardware in a comfortable way.
Few are the manufacturers that have, in their catalog, power supplies in SFX format. This type of power supply format was originally designed to be used in computer cases whose small size prevented the use of sources manufactured following the ATX standard that is usually used in this type of components. Being a very niche market, not all manufacturers had set foot in it.
In the case of EVGA, this manufacturer has a large number of models of power supplies in its catalog, but none of them was for the SFX format. This changes today with the introduction of its new EVGA SuperNOVA GM range. This new series of power supplies have all the features that enthusiasts expect from an ATX format source, but in the small SFX format.
The new EVGA SuperNOVA GM are sources that are built following strict quality controls, to ensure the best efficiency in its operation. Thus, the three models that have been presented within this series (450, 550 and 650 W), all assemble inside Japanese capacitors, which are usually much safer than their Chinese counterparts. This allows them to reach an 80 PLUS GOLD efficiency in operation, together with a deviation in the voltage that they are capable of delivering that is less than 2%, very far from the 5% deviation allowed by the ATX standard for +12 channels, +5 and +3.3 V.
Along with the great efficiency, EVGA supplies these SuperNOVA GM sources with a 92 mm fan, which uses double ball bearings to ensure a long duration of the fan. A fan that has been tared so that it only begins to work from when the source must supply 30% of its total power, being stopped the rest of the time, thus helping to reduce the loudness of our equipment.
In another aspect that SuperNOVA GM sources can help users, is in the management of the cables inside the box, since it is a model that uses a completely modular wiring.
The price of these new sources of power will be the following:
EVGA SuperNOVA 450GM : $ 109.99.
EVGA SuperNOVA 550GM : $ 119.99.
EVGA SuperNOVA 650GM : $ 129.99.
All models are covered by a 7 year warranty.
